Coach Storm’s EMass Top 25

Somerville MA – Down to 2 unbeatens in Spellman and Feehan…or does Feehan get an asterisk??  Who knows?  Spellman has a chance but there is that rematch with the Archies and it’s on the road this time so…Hope the D3 clubs in EMass got a chance to scout CMass power Hopedale….they came into our territory and beat Franklin to win that Xmas Tourney and now beat Rockland…both games by 1 point.  Got a feeling Hopedale may be playing one of our great D3 clubs at the Centrum in March….How about Amanda “A-Mac” McCarthy knocking down 11 bombs from beyond the arc in a 40 point outing last week?...Speaking of 3’s, when Andover’s Meghan Thomann is “on” she is incredible to watch.  Some people say they have NBA range…this kid makes them from there and beyond.  She had 4 of them against ND of Hingham the other night and barely moved the net….so unselfish as well and congrats to her on her 1,000th point.  Lady Warriors seem to be getting a little too dependent on the 3 ball though and in the states when you get to those wide open gyms like the Tsongas with no shooting background it can be a problem…then again their Man “D” will keep them in every game they play so time will tell.

Anyways…check it out and see who moved up and who moved down and always feel free to e-mail me at coachstorm5@comcast.net with any comments or post a comment on the new forum if I ever have time to figure that thing out…LOL.

LAST WEEK

DESCRIPTION

#1.

#1.

Cardinal Spellman (D3 S) – 11 - 0 Great power win over bitter rival Archies.  O’Kane does it again with 2 FT’s with 26 seconds left just like Masco with 7 seconds left to win both games.

#2.

#2.

Bishop Feehan (D2 S) – 10 – 0 Will the road rematch with solid Stang (just beat Durfee) be a problem?  Probably not…but??

#3.

#4.

Lowell (D1 N) – 10 – 1 Smoked Cambridge and took care of business at always scrappy Billerica.

#4.

#3.

Archbishop Williams (D3 S) – 8 – 2 – Tough to move them down much when you lose by 2 on the road against #1.  Will they wake up in time for 10 AM tilt Monday with Mary Louis of NY at Emmanuel College??

#5.

#5.

#6.

#8.

Andover (D1 N) – 10 – 2 The Lady Warriors have strong seniors and quality seniors win…they also appear to be living by the “3” and doing it quite well…will they also die by the “3?”…time will tell.

#7.

#6.

Pentucket (D3 N) – 9 – 1 Again…hard to move a strong club down much when they lose to #5 Masco on the road by 2 in grudge match.

#8.

#7.

Brockton (D1 S) – 9 – 1 Boxers beaten by 6 by Big 3 foe New Bedford and now lose bragging rights until the rematch.

Winthrop (D3 N) – 9 – 1 Passed the Lynn tests and should get by Revere to set up home tilt with the tough Tanners of Peabody on the 29th.

#11.

#12.

Lincoln-Sudbury (D2 N) – 9 – 1 Grey Ghosts of Westford coming to town Tuesday for Round 2…hard to duplicate intensity of double OT game played 5 weeks ago but these two monsters can do it.

#12.

#13.

Westford (D2 N) 9 – 2 The calendar has been circled since 12/14 loss to L-S…can they change the result this time?

#13.

#16.

#17.

#19.

Melrose (D2 N) – 10 - 2 They are rounding into form and have 6 of last 8 at home…can you say Middlesex champs again??...or will Belmont and Reading refuse to utter those dreaded words…

#18.

#22.

Belmont (D2 N) – 10 – 1 No sneaking up on Lexington or Melrose this week…Marauders facing huge tests hosting the former on Monday and visiting the latter on Friday.

#19.

#19.

Dighton Rehoboth – (D2 S) -- 10 – 2 Two losses by 5 points…just wish they had a better power ranking…

#20.

#9.

Whitman Hanson (D2 S) – 10 – 2 Long ride down to Falmouth crimped their style…rebounded nicely over Plymouth South though.

#21.

#23.

Silver Lake (D2 S) – 9 – 1 Super record but again…just wish they had a better power ranking.

#22.

#24.

Westwood (D3 S) – 9 – 1 Bet they can’t wait for Medway rematch on the road on 2/5.

#23.

#25.

Fairhaven – (D3 S) -- 11 – 3 Will be favored in next 3 at home setting up big one also at home against Dighton and big Mary N.

#24.

#24.

Barnstable (D1 S) – 8 – 3 Their young bigs are gettin’ better…could possibly go into the Comcast at 15 and 3…could be movin’ up this ladder if that all happens.

#25.

#25.

New Bedford (D1 S) – 6 – 3 Nothing better than beating the Boxers…now they need consistency to face tough schedule the rest of the way…could the Whalers be the “darkhorse” in D1 South???

On the Cusp

Oliver ames (D1 S) – 9 – 2 Canton loss hurts but Canton has talent…this club needs to regroup and get on a roll to face Franklin the 2nd time.

Rockland (D3 S) -- 8 – 2 Tough loss to Hopedale but got back on track and need to maintain standing until roadie with W-H in early February.

Lynn English (D1 N) -- 8 – 3 Hogan’s Heroes were close but no cigar against the iron in Swampscott and Winthrop…young crew still a work in process.

New Mission (D4 N) – 9 – 1 Club has a “new mission”…win the rest…or at least until 2/6 rematch with Brighton…will it be “payback” time?

Carver (D3 S) – 10 – 2 Too bad the matchup at D1 New Bedford got postphoned…dying to see where this Carver club is really at.

Reading (D2 N) – 8 – 2 Need to hold serve in next 4 so they can control their own destiny when they get 3 straight with Melrose, Lexington, and Belmont…could be veeerrryyy interesting.

Notre Dame of Hingham (D2 S) -- 7 – 4 Solid club but needs a power win to get up in the poll.

Arlington Catholic (D2 N) – 6 - 4 Cougars starting to jell and get much needed week off before hosting St. Mary’s Friday and then big battle at the Archies on Tuesday, the 29th.

Central Catholic (D1 N) – 7 – 3 Confidence slowly coming back…need 2 more “W’s” this week as it gets real rugged after that…at Lowell, at Andover, and then hosting Masco Super Bowl Sunday…yep…need to get a lot of confidence back for that trio of tilts.

Lexington (D1 N) – 7 – 3 Need that 1 win to get over the hump…at Belmont Monday…will this be the one???

Medway (D3 S) – 9 – 1 Gotta’ give these girls some props after beating Westwood…but then tough loss in OT to Medfield…they’re now on the radar screen though….even the great Danny Ventura gave them some props in the Sunday Herald.

Where are They Now???

Nice to see former Spellman great Kelsey Simonds is finally healthy after missing about 460 days (she knew the exact count) of basketball with foot problems.  She leads D2 power Stonehill in scoring at 15.4 points per game.  She also leads the 13 and 3 Skyhawks in rebounding and blocked shots.  I noticed also that her teammate at Stonehill, and former OA star, Bethany Tighe, is having a banner year as well scoring 10.4 points a game while being 2nd in rebounds and also in minutes played.….Former Belmont star Lauren Yanofsky is usually the 1st off the bench for the Bobcats and is scoring at a 6.5 PPG clip.  Congrats to all the ex-Mass high school stars who are lighting it up in the college ranks.

Gotta run folks!.  Remember…  “No ability without eligibility!”
