Nicole Boudreau was named the Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year and put on every all scholastic, every dream team, every all star group that you can name.  She is probably the best player I’ve seen in the state in my 15 years of watching girls’ high school ball.  She averaged over 23 PPG last year and has scored 1,585 points to date.  If Andover goes as far as I think they will this season, she has a great shot at becoming the 23rd girl to break into the highly exclusive 2,000 point club.  She is headed to Boston College next year and is a great get for the Eagles.  She is a superb defender with almost 5 steals per game, a surprising shot blocker and rebounder and sees the floor with almost 4 assists each night.  This kid can do it all on the court (including jumping center each night) and could also lead her Andover club to its 3rd straight state D1 title this season…Emma Roberson had a superb junior year leading Arlington Catholic to the D2 state title…this kid plays the game the way it should be played as she can nail the 3 ball, get all the way to the goal or pull up for a quick “J” which is deadly by the way, but also see the floor and be a tough defender…she never forces anything…she was named a Herald all scholastic and an ESPNBoston all state player and averaged almost 19 a game…for some reason the scholarship offers haven’t been coming yet and in my eyes someone is missing the boat on a kid I think can play at that level.  She is extremely bright…let’s say smart enough so that many of the NESCAC schools like D3 national champion Amherst, Tufts, and more are looking at her.  Whoever does get this kid in my eyes will be getting a gem…Lexi Sells is that consummate player who can do just about anything on the court…kid can score and will go past the 1,000 point mark very early this season and averaged almost 20 a game last year plus 7 boards and 4 assists…at 5’10 she is athletic, quick, tough and strong.  This kid can do it all including stepping behind the arc with ease to nail a “3” and then ball fake you and get to the goal…kid was named a Herald all scholastic and is headed to Providence nest year to ply her trade at the D1 level in the Big East…Allexia Barros of New Bedford really shined last season and put on a superb performance scoring 23 against Mansfield in the D1 South final at the Garden and then 17 against Andover’s incredibly tough defense in the state semis…not sure where this kid is going to school next year but have heard some D1 rumblings at maybe BU or Northeastern…Kayla Burton is a gym rat as she has been around one all her life following in the footsteps of older sister Kendall…well now it is her footsteps making the big imprint on the court as she is ready to take her game to the next level…this kid is athletic, has a great handle and a super quick release when she shoots the 3 ball…had 21 in one of the Comcast Tourney games last year with five 3’s…this kid can flat out play and is a non-stop worker on the court.  She will show her super skills for 2 more years of high school ball which puts a big smile on Coach Sam Doner’s face…Brooke Stewart can do it all on the court and by that I mean she can probably play all 5 positions.  She is a natural guard with 3 point range while also having a handle that is the envy of any point guard…at 5’11 this silky smooth southpaw is quick enough to play and cover small forwards yet strong enough to go inside and bang with the centers and power forwards.  She was a “do everything” superstar for Coach Bob Romeo’s crew last year and will again be the cornerstone for what looks like a very good Masco team this season.  She is heading down to Virginia to play for D1 William and Mary and they are  getting a real good one in Brooke…Reading junior Olivia Healy is a kid who is already getting some D1 looks as Providence and UMass saw her play last season and really liked what she showed them and Holy Cross appears to be very high on the list as well…at 5’10 she can play inside and rebound and score yet step outside behind the arc and nail a “3” and her numbers (17 PPG with 12 boards) prove that point…she was named both a Globe and Herald all scholastic and still has 2 more years of high school ball left…this kid can flat out play and will continue to draw tons of college interest going forward.…Elizabeth Belanger ended up averaging close to 21 PPG again last season and broke through the 1,000 point barrier with one more year to go.  Word of her talents quickly spread and she has decided to play D1 college ball at UNH next year.  This kid is another all-around talent who can score inside and out, rebound in traffic, and see the floor for open teammates…she led the Colonials to the Garden last year where they lost to eventual state champ Andover…she was named a Herald all scholastic and also to ESPNBoston’s all state team…Casey McLaughlin is easily noticeable on the court because she never stops moving.  Her tireless work ethic raised her scoring average to over 16 a game last season while also pulling down 8 boards a night.  She was named MVP of the tough Comcast Tourney and has already been named a co-captain for this her junior season…with Central Catholic graduating 2 scholarship kids from last year’s squad, this will become Casey’s club and with her high motor she will set a shining example for Sue Downer’s team to all follow.  She will be generating lots of college interest and should have many options when she graduates after her senior year…Kara Charette is one of those kids you look at once and know she’s a hoopster…6’1 long, athletic, strong…all the attributes you want to play the game and she makes the most of it…kid has already passed the coveted 1,000 point barrier with her senior season still to go…heard she has committed to D2 power Franklin Pierce and they should be quite happy to get this kid…

          Second Team

Position               Name                      High School                Class             College Choice

Guard              Tiana Johnson             New Mission               Senior              Unknown

Guard              Sarah Hope                 Medway                      Junior              Verbal to BU

Forward          Erin Doherty               Marshfield                   Senior              Southern NH

Forward          Alee Leteria                Hopkinton                   Senior              Stonehill

Center              Brenna Diggins           Norwell                       Junior              Only a Junior

“6th Man”        Paige Marshall Braintree                     Senior              Stonehill

Tiana Johnson is that consummate pass first point guard that I love to watch.  This kid can score also as she averaged over 22 a game in the state tourney.  She was named the Boston City League MVP and also a Globe and Herald all scholastic.  She was a huge addition to New Mission last year and when she graduates after this season some college coach will be thrilled to have this kid running the point for them for 4 years…Sarah Hope is new to this level but this kid has come out of nowhere to rise up and get offered a scholarship to D1 BU even though she is only a junior…she has a great handle and is also quite clever as she sees the floor so well.  Kid can score the ball also and should be the key player for Medway in the tough Tri Valley league this season…Always been a fan of Erin Doherty’s game and she had another excellent season last year including pumping in 33 against Sandwich in a February game and scoring about 14 PPG for the year.  She will be the focal point for Marshfield this season and believe me this kid is ready to take the reins there…I expect her to lead the Rams in scoring and rebounding this season…she played well enough for D2 Southern New Hampshire to offer her and that is well deserved though I’m sure D3 power Babson was greatly disappointed...Alee Leteria overcame some serious knee issues last season to get Hopkinton on a roll and that “roll” lasted all the way to the Garden.  There she showed she was just about ambidextrous using both hands to score from all angles ending with 26 against eventual state champion AC…kid loves to play and will be a driving force on one of the many D2 South contenders this season…D2 power Stonehill recognized her talents and gave her a scholarship and I think that was a great move on Stonehill’s part…6’2 Brenna Diggins should be a twin because she always does doubles on the court…double figure scorer…double figures in rebounds…night in and night out you can count on this kid to hit those numbers…she is only a junior but with her length and talents and with 2 more years to grow and improve, her cell phone will be ringing off the hook with college coaches calling…Paige Marshall is a 5’9 guard who can handle well enough to play the point and still shoot the rock like a great 2 guard.  She is another kid who does it not only on the court but in the classroom as well…well enough that is to also have Amherst College very interested in her skills.  She will be the team leader for the Braintree “Wamps” this season in what should be a very exciting final year for this talented kid and her team.

Third Team

Position               Name                      High School                Class             College Choice

Guard              Asia Minet Mitchell    Oliver Ames                Junior              Only a Junior

Guard              Lexi Gifford               Natick                         Senior              UConn/Softball

Guard                 Morgan O’Brien          Reading                       Junior              Only a Junior

Forward          Donnaizha Fountain    Cambridge                  Junior              Only a Junior

Center/Forward   Jen Gemma                 Fontbonne                   Junior              Only a Junior

“6th Man”        Beth Castantini           Newburyport               Senior              Undecided

Asia Minet Mitchell is a kid I noticed early when she was a freshman.  She can handle, shoot the rock, defend, is real quick yet strong enough to handle her own on any corner of the court.  She had an excellent AAU season before getting a tough injury at a tourney in New York.  She turned enough heads prior to getting hurt though and the recruiting trail is red hot for this girl from all over the place including at the D1 level.  She is a point guard who can score and should have a terrific coming out party this season for an Oliver Ames club that should be excellent…Lexi Gifford is one of the best athletes in the area…kid is a dynamite softball shortstop and good enough to be playing at D1 UConn next season…she is excellent on the hardwood as well…she led her Natick club to an outstanding season last year and I think Natick could have their best team in quite a while this year with Gifford back to man one of the guard spots…kid can shoot, handle and has great instincts on the court…call me selfish but would have loved to see this kid go D3 in college so she could keep playing hoops as well as softball…that’s how good she is… Morgan O’Brien is the “yang” to Olivia Healy’s “ying” for the Reading Rockets…stop one and the other will kill you.  Nice for Coach Kim Penney to have 2 scholarship level talents as go-to options on the court.  This kid can really shoot the rock especially from behind the arc…she shoots so well that D2 power Assumption is said to have real good interest and I’m sure there are many others as well…Donnaizha Fountain is long at 5’10…can sky with the best of them…can handle…and boy can she get to the goal.  She is maybe the most difficult defensive task for any coach to try and stop one on one.  She took it to Andover pretty good at the St. Mary’s tourney last season and should get on every fan’s radar screen this year.  College coaches certainly have her on their radar screens as she has tons of interest at all levels…Fontbonne’s Jen Gemma is another I noticed real early in her career and you know a kid is good when you recall where and when…it was at the Somerville Xmas tourney her freshman season and she still keeps getting better and better.  This athletic 6 footer can score inside and yet step back and nail foul line level jumpers.  She is getting real good college interest and heard a rumor that D2 power Bentley was interested…I obviously don’t see every player nor do I notice all of the good one’s early in their careers and a perfect example is Newburyport’s Beth Castantini.  She is one that I missed the boat on until this summer when I saw her in our showcase and also another local one…this kid can play.  She can shoot and handle but I really loved her “D” as at 5’10 with long arms she was a disruptive force using those long arms to tip balls and make steals against the strong talent you see at college coaches showcases.  She will be a great addition to whatever college campus she ends up at next season.

Fourth Team

Position              Name                       High School                Class             College Choice

Guard              Blake Underhill           Ashland                       Senior              Manhattan

Guard              Kelly Martin                Scituate                       Junior              Only a Junior

Guard-Forward   Lauren Hebert             North Reading                        Senior              New Haven

Guard-Forward   Ara Talkov                  Swampscott                Junior              Only a Junior

Center/Forward   Courtney Yost                        Silver Lake                  Senior              Undecided

“6th Man”        Maddie Ganser           Needham                     Junior              Only a Junior

Blake Underhill has had an outstanding career at Ashland and her hard work has paid off as she will be playing D1 college ball at Manhattan starting next fall…this kid is a terrific athlete who can play either guard spot and play them well…the “Clockers” will miss her when she is gone as she has been one of the best players the school has ever had…Scituate’s sweet shootin’ smooth handlin’ junior point guard Kelly Martin can play the game…this silky southpaw will be the floor leader on what should be a very good Scituate team this season.  She is a prototype point guard who can see the floor yet bury a “J” in your face if her talented teammates are covered.  The word is she is getting lots of college interest from all levels but I think a scholarship is in this kid’s future…North Reading’s Lauren Hebert is another who was a little off my radar screen and also many other’s but played well enough to catch D2 New Haven’s eye and so now she’s headed down to that Connecticut school after she ends her “Hornet’s” career.  New Coach Hank DeSantis is sure glad he at least gets to coach this talented wing player for at least one season…Ara Talkov is now a junior and thank God she has 2 more seasons to make up for the frustrating high ankle injury that pretty much wiped out most of her sophomore season.  This kid can play and at 5’11 has legit 2 guard skills and having her back at 100% this year will be huge for the Big Blue.  If she gets back to the kid I saw before she got hurt, look out folks as she has a really bright future…so “bright” in fact that Ivy League schools like Columbia and Yale are looking at her already…Silver Lake’s Courtney Yost is another of those really talented kids that I don’t see hardly at all but wish I could.  I believe she is another who went past that exclusive 1,000 point barrier last season and must have lots of college options to choose from already.  She reportedly is choosing between Emerson and Roger Williams and whatever school wins that recruiting battle will be extremely pleased at what they get for the next 4 years…Saying Maddie Ganser comes from very good hoop bloodlines is stating the obvious for sure as her 2 older sisters are both highly successful starters at scholarship programs with Christine at D1 Holy Cross and Katie already a captain at D2 Merrimack.  Bloodlines are one thing but working to develop that talent is another and Maddie has certainly put in the time and it sure shows.  This kid if she stays 100% healthy this year (her foot injury hurt Needham bad last year) should have a big coming out party on the court this season.  She is long at 5’9 or so yet athletic and can pretty much do it all on the court.  Me thinks this will be another scholarship kid from the Ganser clan by next year…

Fifth Team

Position               Name                      High School                Class             College Choice

Guard              Sara Ryan                    Archbishop Williams   Junior              Only a Junior

Guard              Morgan Lumb             North Andover           Junior              Only a Junior

Forward          Olivia Murphy             Canton                                    Senior              Unknown

Forward          Megan Otto                 Scituate                       Senior              Babson

Center             Shannon Brady           Scituate                       Senior              Bowdoin

“6th Man”        Caitlyn Abela              Oliver Ames                Junior              Only a Junior

Sara Ryan has been a starting guard for the Archies since day 1 of her career as a freshman…this 5’9 dynamo can play either guard spot and play them well…she can slice to the hoop or step back and nail them from the outside…she can handle, pass, board and play defense…this kid will be getting some serious interest from colleges down the road…North Andover’s Morgan Lumb has been on my radar since I saw her as an 8th grader play lights out in a Boston showcase.  This kid has good size, can handle and score in many ways…she is the focal point of every opponent’s defense yet still is their leading scorer night in and night out.  This kid has a very bright future and will be getting lots of college coaches trying to get her cell phone number…Canton’s Olivia Murphy is one of those kids who just throws up stats every night…she’s pretty much a “double-double” machine when it comes to points and rebounds.  I saw her at a showcase in September and got a glimpse of the reason why this happens so often as she scored 7 hoops in a 5 minute segment when she was on the court…kid is a good one and will be sorely missed when she graduates from Canton at the end of this year…Megan Otto is a player that every coach likes because she fills up the stat sheet each night.  She has 3 point range yet at 5’11 can play inside and be strong on the boards…she has terrific low post spin moves (love this part of her game) and this has become somewhat of a lost art…she scored almost 16 PPG on a very good Scituate team last year and one that should be outstanding this season…she decided to go early decision to D3 power Babson College and they are getting a good one…Might as well keep the Scituate thing going here as hard working 6 foot Shannon Brady is another of the galaxy of stars on this club…love this kid’s work ethic and it pays dividends with offensive rebounds and put backs as this kid another regular in the “double-double” club…in baseball great team’s are said to be strong up the middle and Scituate certainly is “strong up the middle” with Martin at the point…Otto on the wing and inside and with the rugged Brady in the center spot…reportedly went “early” to D3 power Bowdoin and they must be thrilled to be getting this kid…OA’s Caitlyn Abela is one that I saw early on and was glad that I did.  Kid is a talented 6 footer who can score inside and out and do lots of real good things on the court.  She is part of what looks to be OA’s best team since the recent state champion editions so her numbers might not be huge (tons of talent at OA) this kid will get lots of college coaches who will see what I have seen from her…

Sixth Team

Position               Name                      High School                Class             College Choice

Guard              Tania Holmes              Medford                      Senior              Undecided

Guard              Devon Caveney          Andover                      Junior              Only a Junior

Forward          Candace Steadman     Oliver Ames                Senior              Towson St.

Center/Forward   Ashley Lutz                Lincoln Sudbury         Junior              Only a Junior

Center             Jen Narlee                   Medfield                     Junior              Only a Junior

“6th Man”        Tricia Quinn                Coyle Cassidy             Senior              Unknown

Okay Medford Coach Leo Burke likes to have his team kept under the radar screen and I think that is what is happening with his star Tania Holmes…this kid can play and I believe was the GBL MVP the last 2 years…she is quick, can handle, score, basically does it all for the up and coming Mustang program…you might say this “mustang” is the “favorite” in every race she plays in…Andover’s Devon Caveney has been a key cog in the championship runs since she stepped foot at the high school there and in 2 years has played on 2 state champions…this sweet strokin’ southpaw I believe was huge at the Garden as a frosh pumping in 19 points to get the Lady Warriors into the state title game…she is the perfect complement to Boudreau so that if any team decides to double team Nicole then Caveney will destroy that strategy with 3 point bombs of her own…2 years ago I said if this kid ate her Wheaties and put on some pounds she had a chance to be a good one…I said that about Candace Steadman…and she has obviously been downing the breakfast of champions as she is now a key cog for OA on what could be another possible state title run…kid looks like she will be at the front of their press and could be a force there with her long arms and quickness…she is headed to D1 Towson State but not for hoops as this multi-talented kid will be doing some spikin’ on the volleyball court there…L-S’s Ashley Lutz has always worked hard and seems to get better each time I see her…kid is a little over 6 feet tall yet steps back behind the arc often and routinely nails “3’s”…just ask Revere as she broke their hearts with one in the state tourney last year…with her length and inside and outside game, this kid will have her cell phone ringing off the hook with college coaches wanting to try and entice her to head to their campus…Medfield has had an excellent program the last few years and the future looks even brighter now as Jen Narlee returns again this year to wreck havoc in the Tri Valley League…this 6 foot inside force was the TVL MVP last year as a sophomore and continues to get stronger and better as she matures…me thinks another MVP may be in the offing when this season is done as well…Tricia Quinn looks to be a quiet unassuming kid who lets her on court performance do all the talking…she grew a bit last year and now is 6’1 with long arms so plays even bigger than her listed height…kid is talented and very athletic as she runs the floor like a track star…she is not sure where she is going to college but this kid will be a nice surprise for some college coach…Coach Mike O’Brien has been blest first with Brenna Gonsalves as the star with Quinn in the shadows but I look for Tricia to head to the forefront this season and that should make Coach O’Brien feel doubly blest.

Seventh Team

Position               Name                      High School                Class             College Choice

Guard              Jennifer Gonsalves      Harwich                      Senior              Unknown

Guard              Gena Restiano             Revere                         Junior              Only a Junior

Guard              Indira Evora                Somerville                         Junior              Only a Junior

Forward          Gracie Harrigan           Taunton                       Senior              Unknown

Center             Michela North             Duxbury                      Junior              Only a Junior

Jen Gonsalves can flat out score the rock as she averaged almost 22 a game last year and has already broken the 1,000 point barrier with this her final year still to come.  I don’t ever get to see Harwich play but those numbers speak for themselves and those who do see her regularly say she is a talented kid…not sure where she is going to college but some coach will be real happy to have her for 4 seasons…Revere’s Gena Restiano is one of those kids that you love to watch play and be around…kid has a great 3 point shot yet blows by people to get to the goal…there are even rumors she is getting to the foul line a lot more now which should pump her scoring average up 4 points or so a game this season…this personable star will be doing it all for Revere this year and with Morgan Jenkins having graduated, may even have to lead the club in rebounding…Somerville’s Indira Evora will have a breakout year this season as this talented junior plays hoops all the time and it shows…the Highlanders graduated star Kelsey Garrity last year but Indira is ready, willing and able to take over the role as team leader in all facets of the game…she will be the force that new Coach John DePasquale will need to play a ton of miuntes this year like Garrity did last season…Indira will be up to that task…Taunton is a club that continued to improve and turn its program around and talented and tall Gracie Harrigan been a big part of this reversal in fortunes…kid is 6 foot and can score inside and out including excellent 3 point range.  She has been a staple in their starting lineup for a few years now…she will be one of the leaders again this season for the Tigers as Taunton continues to be a factor in D1 South…not sure where she will be going to college but she should have lots of choices and she will help whatever program does get her services on the court next season...Michaela North is long…real long as she is a legit 6’2 and that makes her a very intimidating presence inside the paint…this maturing junior plays tons of very good AAU ball and her time and effort combined with added strength will make her a dynamite player for Duxbury this winter and the following season as well.

Eighth Team

Position               Name                      High School                Class             College Choice

Guard              Brittany Lomano         Billerica                       Junior              Only a Junior

Guard              Nicole Viselli              Pentucket                    Junior              Only a Junior

Guard              Jill Cullen                    North Attleboro          Senior              Unknown

Forward          Sierra Schrader            Bishop Feehan                        Junior              Only a Junior

Center             Molly Reagan              Braintree                     Freshman         Only a Frosh

Billerica’s Brittany Lomanno is only a junior but I feel like she has been around for longer than 2 years as she has started every game of her high school career…to me that is saying a lot as she is the point guard and no coach would entrust that key role to someone that wasn’t talented but more importantly to someone without a very high basketball IQ.  I look for Billerica to take a big leap this year in the super tough MVC…maybe not past Andover or Central Catholic but I think Brittany will be leading a Top 30 team when this season is done and into the state tourney on a roll…Seemed like every time I read a Pentucket game recap last year that sharpshooting southpaw Nicole Viselli was listed as having nailed 3 or 4 bombs from beyond the arc…this kid has been around the game since she was small and boy it shows with her court knowledge on offense and defense…kid has great poise and is an excellent free throw shooter…check the box scores this year and see how many 3’s she hits each night…she’s a good one… I don’t get down to North Attleborough much…okay maybe never…but don’t want to forget sharpshooting Jill Cullen on this list.  I did see her in AAU and she can flat out shoot the 3 ball.  She is another that I’m not sure if she has made any college choice yet but I’m sure she has tons of options…Sierra Schrader is a slinky southpaw that I really enjoy watching play…kid is close to 5’10 but her long arms allow her to play way bigger than her height.  Her work ethic inside is phenomenal as she averaged about 20 rebounds a game in the state tourney last year…she has been out for a while this fall but the word is she is now cleared to play so look for Coach Mike Deady to break out in a big smile and watch for Bishop Feehan to get off on the right foot (they open with the Archies) and that could take them deep into the D2 state tourney…Okay this may be a reach here putting a frosh in the Top 50 but I think this kid has “the sky’s the limit” type potential…Molly Reagan is a legit 6’2…strong…excellent footwork for a low post player…can shoot a turnaround jumper…and only a freshman…take a look and see what you think…if not this year then next as this kid WILL be a good one!
