You can make a very good case that Wellesley’s Blake Dietrick is the best all-around hoopster in the state and also the best female athlete.  She is a 3 sport star and her best sport may be lacrosse where she is ranked the 34th best player in the US in one respected ranking.  At 5’10 she is an excellent rebounder leading the team last year plus she is a super 3 point shooter…can handle with the best of them…can really take the ball to the goal…will lead the team in assists this year…and usually covers the other team’s best player.  She has been a Herald All Scholastic (come on Globe…get with it here) and also scored her 1,000th point already.  She also is amazing in the classroom…you don’t get into maybe the top school in the nation (Princeton) without that type of cerebral ability and overall athletic and life skills…Natalie Gomez loves to play the game!!..I love it when she claps her hands to get ready to play “D.” She has been nominated as a McDonald’s All American, was a Herald Dream Teamer and Globe All Scholastic again last season and is a super talented kid who fills up a stat sheet each and every night.  She led her club to the D1 state title and scored 25 in the championship game…she handles the rock all the time, defends, and rebounds along with scoring over 15 PPG including hitting for her 1,000th point…Marist has to be thrilled getting a kid with her passion and talent for the game.…Nicole Boudreau is the best shooter these eyes have seen in about 15 years of watching girls high school ball…she had 2 games last year scoring over 40 and averaged 21 PPG…named to the Herald Dream Team and a Globe All Scholastic as a sophomore is an amazing feat…Even more amazing is she has already verballed to Boston College who are lucky to know they already have this star wrapped up.  She is another who could be called the best all-around player in the state as she is a surprising shot blocker who like all the Andover kids plays superb defense.  This kid can do it all on the court and recently became the fastest player in Andover history to reach the 1,000 point barrier, an amazing feat in itself…all this and still has 2 more years of high school ball ahead…great news for Andover fans but not for opponents around the state…Amy Pelletier is a point guard who can also shoot the rock…kid can flat out play…another who is incredibly unselfish on the court but yet can score well enough that she had 31 with 8 three’s in a state tourney tilt last year…she will have to be even stronger this year as the Catholic League is incredibly tough this season…Stonehill is where she is heading and she will be a welcome sight the next 4 years down on that campus…Sophie Bikofsky is a southpaw and I always love the shooting stroke that lefty’s possess and she is no exception…she scored about 16 a game and at 5’10 can handle, rebound and defend…she is perfect size for a high level college guard and D1 Brown recognized all these attributes as she is headed down to Providence to play for this Ivy League school…should be some fun rivalry games when Brown plays Princeton and Sophie goes against AAU teammate Blake Dietrick the next 4 years…Brenna Gonsalves is a 5’ 10” speedball on the court who also excels in track and field…she has already broken the 1,000 point barrier and has a chance to graduate as the school’s all-time leading scorer for both boys and girls…she was named a Herald All Scholastic and I think she will be remembered as the best ever to play at Coyle Cassidy…this multi-sport star is taking her talents to Long Island to play for D2 Adelphi next year…Kellie McDonald is long and lean and the leader of a young and talented Danvers group that should have an excellent season this winter…she is smooth inside and has a pretty shooting stroke from 15’ or so and scored over 16 PPG plus she’s a “Windex” kid cleaning the glass every night…she is another one with a great head on her shoulders as she heads off to play at Williams the next 4 years.…Elizabeth Belanger  ended up averaging 21 PPG last year despite seeing double teams almost everywhere she went on the court.  This talented junior was named the MVP of the DCL and who can score inside and out, rebound in traffic, and see the floor for open teammates…she will be drawing a ton of interest from college coaches  who would love to get her to sign on the dotted line when she eventually graduates from A-B…Stonehill bound Tori Faieta play as if every game will be her last as she is probably the hardest working girl in EMass hoops…kid gives 110% on the court every second and it shows with her results…she has already broken the 1,000 point AND 1,000 rebound mark and should lead her St. Mary’s club to a terrific season this winter…The coaches at D2 power Stonehill have to be thrilled she will be taking her great skills and work ethic down to North Easton for the next 4 years… Leah Tacey is another kid heading to play D1 college ball at Bryant…kid is 6’ and can bang inside or hit the 15 footer…she will also be a “double-double” kid each and every night for Coach Behn’s crew as she is a Windex kid who has always cleaned the glass.

          Second Team

Position               Name                      High School                Class             College Choice

Guard              Gabie Polce                 Central Catholic          Senior              St. Rose

Guard              Kendall Burton           Newton South             Senior              Villanova

Forward          Khadidjah Ellison       Burke                          Senior              Mississippi St.

Forward          Nicole Beresford         Marshfield                   Senior              Not Known

“6th Man”        Lexie Sells                   Bishop Feehan                        Junior              Only a Junior

She has already gotten a state title on her resume and her club has been in the hunt every year she has played for Sue Downer’s Central Catholic club…this two time captain will again be running the show there and her leadership skills will be critical as the team transitions to life without Katie Z…me thinks this multi-talented (terrific singer as well) is the right person for the job…Gabie Polce is one talented and tough point guard who is off to play for D2 St. Rose in the rugged Northeast 10 the next 4 years…Kendall Burton is another talented and hard working girl who can get to the rack with ease…kid can also pop from outside as she scored over 16 PPG…Villanova recognized her talents and she is off to play D1 in the Big East the next 4 winters and she will also be a huge key in leading Newton South to what could be maybe their best season ever…Khadidjah Ellison is a hoop junkie who just seems to be playing hoops all the time…and it has paid off as she is heading south to play at Mississippi State, a D1 club that plays in the rugged Southeast Conference…kid routinely can get you a triple double and she will be impossible to replace after she graduates from Burke after this year…she was named a Herald All Scholastic and will be the focal point for Burke as they try and unseat New Mission to be the top dog in the city this year…Nicole Beresford is 6’ tall with guard skills and 3 point range…she was named to the Herald All Scholastic team for a 2nd time and broke the magic 1,000 barrier last year and is also now the school’s all time leading scorer…she overcame a cracked bone in her wrist and some leg problems last year but still scored over 15 a game…Alexis Udoji is long…real long…and at 6’4 is a game changer inside with her phenomenal shot blocking abilities including a school record 20 blocks in ONE game against Fenwick…kid had numerous triple doubles and is an amazing force on the court for Coach Lamb who is glad to welcome her back for her senior year…Lexi Sells is that consummate player who can do just about anything on the court and beat you in such a variety of ways it’s scary…at 5’10 she is athletic, quick, tough and strong, this kid can do it all including stepping behind the arc with ease then ball fake and is a beast going to the hoop…kid already has scholarship offers and Coach Mike Deady is always smiling cause she plays for him for 2 more years.

Third Team

Position               Name                      High School                Class             College Choice

Guard              Tiana Johnson             New Mission               Junior              Only a Junior

Guard              Briana Hunt                Newton North             Senior              Franklin Pierce

Guard/Forward    Brooke Stewart           Masco                          Junior              Only a Junior

Forward          Melissa Miller              Central Catholic          Senior              Merrimack

Center             Johnna Fisher              Winthrop                     Senior              Central Conn.

“6th Man”        Erin Doherty               Marshfield                   Junior              Only a Junior

Tiana Johnson is lightning quick and is that pass first point guard I find so enjoyable to watch…kid can get to the rack with the best of them and score with either hand yet she also can dump it off to others inside into places I can’t even see…real bright future for this kid as her passing instincts are superb…she will be a huge addition to New Mission this winter…Brianna Hunt is a kid who can do it all on the court…hit the “3”…handle…see the floor…defend…she is a perfect piece in the Newton North puzzle scoring almost 20 PPG as this club rose up high last year and will be highly ranked all year this season…kid is heading north to play for perennial D2 power Franklin Pierce the next 4 years…Brooke Stewart should really come into her own this season for Bob Romeo’s Masco crew.  This smooth 5’11 southpaw can do it all on the court as she can play guard…hit the 3…rebound…go strong to the goal…she’ll be a real leader as a junior this season…Melissa Miller has been an inside force for Sue Downer’s Central Catholic crew for 3 years now…you will hear a lot about this kid with Katie Z having graduated as she should step up and into the limelight as her club continues its bitter rivalry with MVC foe Andover…she is another off to the NE 10 as she will ply her wares at Merrimack…Johnna Fisher seems to get taller each time I see her…6’2 anyways…maybe more…Winthrop had a rough go of it last year but this kid should lead them to a much better record this year…she is off to play at D1 Central Connecticut after graduating next June…Always been a fan of Erin Doherty’s game and I think she takes it to another level this year…saw her play a few times in the off season and she should (along with talented teammate Nicole Beresford) make Marshfield a contender this winter…she is already drawing some real good college interest and it is well deserved.

Fourth Team

Position              Name                       High School                Class             College Choice

Guard              Kelsey Garrity             Somerville                   Senior              Undecided

Guard              Lexie Gifford              Natick                         Junior              Only a Junior

Guard              Amber Dillon              Brookline                    Senior              Undecided

Forward          Carlene Kluge             Reading                       Senior              Bentley

Center             Kara Charette              Fairhaven                    Junior              Only a Junior

“6th Man”        Olivia Healy                Reading                       Sophomore      Only a Soph

Kelsey Garrity is another kid you have trouble getting out of the gym due to her passion for the game…she plays the game in a true “all-around” fashion…kid just constantly fills up a stat sheet…points, boards, steals, assists, block a shot…yes even a turnover now and then…she has been around the game her whole life with her dad Paul and older brother Mark  and she learned all the lessons really well…this GBL Co-MVP has a shot to hit the 1,000 point mark this year and if she does will become only the 5th player (boys or girls) to do so in the rich and storied tradition of Somerville High hoops…Lexie Gifford is one of those kids I just found out about and glad that I did…kid scored over 15 a game last year, has a great handle, and can nail the “3” ball…Natick should be much improved this year and she will be a main reason…Amber Dillon is a 5’8 whirling dervish who is lightning on the court and can get to the hoop on anyone…great handle and sees the floor really well…she led Brookline scoring over 16 PPG last season…Carlene Kluge is one of those kids you love to watch play as her passion for the game just oozes out of her when she is on the court…kid is long at 6’ yet has great guard skills…she could probably play any position on the court…though she had some scholarship offers down South in Florida, she decided to stay close and play for the Falcons of Bentley… Kara Charette is one of those kids you look at once and know she’s a hoopster…6’1 long, athletic, strong…all the attributes you want to play the game and she makes the most of it…kid is only a junior but her name has to be on the wish list of many college coaches already…Reading’s Olivia Healy is a kid I saw once last year as a frosh and said to myself…”this kid’s got it!”…”it” being the whole package…at 5’10 she can play inside and rebound and score yet step outside behind the arc and nail a “3”…she can handle…defend…the whole 9 yards…she will be drawing tons of college interest going forward yet still has 3 years of high school left…

Fifth Team

Position               Name                      High School                Class             College Choice

Guard              Jennifer Gonsalves      Harwich                      Junior              Only a Junior

Guard              Kelsey Johnson           Old Rochester             Senior              Undecided

Guard              Shelby Santini             Winchester                  Senior              Southern NH

Forward          Samantha Mangano    Winchester                  Senior              New Haven

Center             Ashley LeBlanc          Methuen                      Senior              Not Known

“6th Man”        Hannah O’Flynn         Ipswich                       Senior              Not Known

Jen Gonsalves can flat out score the rock as she averaged almost 21 a game last year and has over 800 points with 2 more years of high school ball left….yea…you do the math that projects to over 1,600 for her career…I don’t ever get to see Harwich play but those numbers speak for themselves and those who do see her regularly say she is a talented kid…Old Rochester’s Kelsey Johnson is a kid who has been throwing up great all-around numbers throughout her high school career and needs just 15 points for 1,000…kid can handle the rock and score both inside and out.  She has some D2 and D3 interest and whatever school she chooses to attend next year will be getting a good one…Shelby Santini forms half of the dynamic duo with Sam Mangano that has led Winchester back into the mix for winning a Middlesex League title and being a big factor in D2 North and with two super seniors like these, Winchester should have an excellent season…Santini is the ball handler but is still big enough to help out inside while Mangano at 6’ can handle some inside work but may be even more comfortable out beyond the arc shooting 3’s…both are playing at the D2 level next year with Santini heading north to Southern New Hampshire and Mangano going south to New Haven…Methuen’s Ashley LeBlanc is long…real long at 6’2 and this kid has some excellent inside moves and also a real nice stroke from 15 feet…she runs the court extremely well and is very athletic…not sure where she is going to college but this kid has a huge upside and should have an excellent college career… Hannah O’Flynn was a revelation last season scoring over 20 PPG while hauling in almost 12 rebounds each night in leading Ipswich to a superb year…this smooth 6 footer was named the CAL D2 Player of the Year…she is as athletic as they come for her size and should lead Ipswich to another strong season this winter…

Sixth Team

Position               Name                      High School                Class             College Choice

Guard              Chloe Rothman           Newton South             Senior              Merrimack

Guard              Molly McLaughlin      Westwood                   Senior              Skidmore

Guard              Erin Young                 Westwood                   Senior              Babson

Forward          Morgan Jenkins           Revere                         Senior              St. Michael’s

Center/Forward   Maggie Whelan           Nauset                         Senior              Not Known

“6th Man”        Alyssa Roach              New Bedford              Senior              Undecided

Chloe Rothman is like a coach on the floor for Sam Doner’s quintet as she distributes the rock to her killer bee teammates Bikofsky and Burton but you can’t back off of Rothman or she’ll bury a 3 ball on you…kid is also a superb ball handler and is another off to play in the rugged D2 NE 10 Conference at Merrimack…Westwood has two of my favorites in their guard duo I like to refer to as “the Bobsey Twins”…Molly McLaughlin is heading to Skidmore next year and she is the clever point guard with the nice shake and bake dribble who really developed her scoring abilities during the AAU season…more often than not however she is passing to one of the deadliest 3 point shooters around in fellow senior and Babson bound Erin Young…these two have been playing so long together they instinctively know what the other will be doing at all times…kinda’ like twins…Morgan Jenkins is one of those kids you just have to love due to how hard she plays on the court…though somewhat undersized for a power forward, this kid makes up for it with desire and dogged determination…she led Revere out of the hoop doldrums last year into some prominence and that should continue as she heads into her senior season…all the sweat labor she has poured into the game paid off with a D2 scholarship to NE 10 St. Michael’s…Nauset’s Maggie Whelan is a “double double” machine who can bang with the  best of them inside…she has done this for 3 years and should be better than ever at it this winter as Nauset has a rock in the middle to anchor her team to what they hope will be a terrific season…Alyssa Roach is 5’9 and can probably play any position on the court…big enough to board…fast enough to blow by people…can really hit the “3” ball…and plays 110% all 32 minutes…hope New Bedford can stay healthy this year so more people can see this talented kid play…

Seventh Team

Position               Name                      High School                Class             College Choice

Guard              Dyamond Gardner      Cambridge                  Senior              Undecided

Guard              Lauren Perra                Taunton                       Senior              Undecided

Guard-Forward   Ara Talkov                  Swampscott                Sophomore      Only a Soph

Forward          Amanda Keane           Wilmington                 Senior              Undecided

Center             Tracey Ivan                 Plymouth South          Senior              Not Known

Dyamond Gardner is a true “diamond in the rough” as she continues to fly under the radar screen…kid lost a year to a knee injury so not a lot of folks talk about her game but it is a good one…look for her to throw out some serious stats this winter in Cambridge…Lauren Perra is like a waterbug on the court…here, there, and everywhere as she is super quick…can handle…and really shoot the 3 ball…with her at the controls I look for Taunton to continue its rise in D1 South… Ara Talkov is only a sophomore but this kid can play…she has legit 2 guard skills and should help bring the Big Blue back into my rankings this winter…I forgot to list her name last year and got an e-mail to help me out…boy did I miss out on her game last season but not any more…Amanda Keane has overcome some injury issues and now healthy had an excellent AAU season that should show some good dividends this winter…kid loves the game and is non-stop out there on the court…at 5’11 this kid has guard skills but her board work and inside game may make her more valuable inside…that said do not leave her alone on the outside either as she can knock down a 15 footer with ease as well…I don’t get down to Plymouth way at all but wish I could as Tracey Irvan is a kid who can play…at 6’2 she is really long and allows her to be a triple double threat almost every night with scoring, rebounds, and blocked shots…

Eighth Team

Position               Name                      High School                Class             College Choice

Guard              Megan Otto                 Scituate                       Junior              Only a Junior

Forward          Gracie Harrigan           Taunton                       Junior              Only a Junior

Center             Tess Cigliano               Lowell                         Senior              Not Known

Megan Otto is a kid who fills up the stat sheet each night as the kid has 3 point range yet at 5’11 can play inside and be strong on the boards…she is also one of those kids who finds a way to score in many different ways…Molly Brown can flat out shoot the rock especially behind the 3 point arc.  Kid scored almost 20 a game last year and should be just as proficient if not more this year…whatever college she is heading to will be getting a good one…Tori Fenn is a beast on the boards and scoring inside who is one of the key pieces to what should be a very interesting club down Fall River way with 4 talented starters returning…Taunton is a club that continues to improve and their record should reflect it this year and a big cog in this rise will be the play of a tall and athletic kid named Gracie Harrigan…kid is 6 foot and can score inside and out and who I think has a chance to be a good one…Tess Cigliano is an interesting unknown who at 6’2 has an excellent inside game…kid is the top student in Lowell High’s senior class  and is looking at schools like BC and Providence for academic and not hoop reasons…
